Three things to do to support your author/illustrator friend or family member:

Tell a Friend
Social proof is the number one way thing that moves the needle on books sales. A friend tells you about a book they absolutely can't put down? You're going to pick it up. So spread the word in person and on social media platforms. You don't even have to say buy this book. Just say you love it. Other people will want to check it out! Your author or illustrator friend/family member will thank you!

Leave a Review
Reviews are social proof as well. Most people check out the reviews on Amazon or GoodReads before they decide what to buy. So go ahead and leave an honest review on those sites. Having no reviews will kill a book faster than anything else. So go ahead, and review away! It's free and the most important thing you can do to support an author or illustrator.

Be Patient
If you're the loved one of an author or illustrator, let them take the lead when they want to talk about the creative or book production process. For traditional authors/illustrators, the process can take years and be fraught with rejection and difficulty. For indie authors/illustrators, the learning curve can be steep. Don't ask all the time how the process is going; just listen and support. Let them initiate the conversations!

The Loft in the News
We've been featured in the Boston Globe, the Wellesley/Weston Magazine, and other news. What we do is unique, and we love to talk about it. The Loft supports over 1,000 independent authors and illustrators, gives local creatives a space of their own, and publishes amazing anthologies--the last had over 100 creatives in it. We publish teen and never-before-published authors/illustrators alongside famous authors/illustrators like Peter H. Reynolds and Jane Yolen. Email us if you'd like to do a story on the Loft! Stock our books in your local library or bookstore
We love having all our anthologies and member books stocked in our/their local libraries or booksellers.
Grab our anthology sell sheets, and go in and ask for the books to be stocked! Spread the word!
